Revolut’s Standard account is free to open and free to use for most everyday spending. The fees that catch people out sit in the details: ATM limits, weekend currency markups, and what happens once you go over your monthly allowance. This guide breaks down exactly what you pay on every current UK plan, as of August 2026, using Revolut’s own published fee schedule.
Quick answer: Standard is free. Paid plans cost £3.99 to £55 a month. The real cost differences show up once you exceed your free ATM or currency exchange allowance, or exchange money at the weekend.
How much does Revolut cost in the UK?
Revolut runs five personal plans in the UK: Standard, Plus, Premium, Metal and Ultra. Standard is free. The paid tiers add higher free allowances, lower currency exchange costs and a growing list of perks, for a fixed monthly fee.
- Standard: £0/month
- Plus: £3.99/month
- Premium: £7.99/month
- Metal: £14.99/month
- Ultra: £55/month
You can pay monthly or commit to a 12-month plan. The 12-month option is sometimes priced slightly lower per month. The table below shows the full fee picture across every tier, using Revolut’s own current UK pricing.
| Fee type | Standard | Plus | Premium | Metal | Ultra |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly subscription | Free | £3.99 | £7.99 | £14.99 | £55 |
| Free ATM withdrawals | £200/month or 5 withdrawals, whichever comes first | £200/month | £400/month | £800/month | £2,000/month |
| ATM fee after limit | 2% (min. £1) | 2% (min. £1) | 2% (min. £1) | 2% (min. £1) | 2% (min. £1) |
| Free currency exchange | £1,000/month | £3,000/month | No limit | No limit | No limit |
| Exchange fee after limit | 1% | 0.5% | None | None | None |
| Weekend exchange markup | 1% | 0.5% | None | None | None |
| International transfer fee | Standard rate | 20% off | 40% off | Free | Free |
Every fee above applies specifically to Revolut’s UK personal accounts. It reflects the Fees Page Revolut updated on 11 December 2025, effective for existing customers from 13 February 2026. Revolut revises pricing from time to time. Check Revolut’s own pricing page before you commit to a paid tier, though the figures above are current as of this update.

Does Revolut charge ATM withdrawal fees?
Yes, but only once you go over your plan’s free allowance. Every tier gets a set number of fee-free cash withdrawals each rolling month, and the overage fee is the same across all five plans: 2% of the withdrawal amount, with a minimum charge of £1.
The free allowance is where the plans actually differ:
- Standard gives you £200 worth of withdrawals or 5 separate withdrawals a month, whichever limit you hit first. This “whichever comes first” rule catches a lot of Standard users out if they make several small withdrawals rather than one larger one.
- Plus keeps the same £200 monthly cap but drops the 5-withdrawal count restriction.
- Premium doubles the Standard allowance to £400/month.
- Metal raises it to £800/month.
- Ultra offers £2,000/month, which covers all but the heaviest cash users.
Revolut UK personal accounts do not accept cash deposits, so if you regularly pay in cash, factor that into whether Revolut suits your banking habits at all.
Currency exchange fees and the weekend markup
Revolut’s headline appeal is fee-free spending abroad. For most people, that holds true, within their plan’s monthly fair usage limit. Go over it, or exchange money on a Saturday or Sunday, and extra costs apply.
Each plan carries a monthly exchange allowance that covers currency, cryptocurrency and commodity exchanges combined. If you convert £600 of currency and £500 of crypto in the same month on a Standard plan, for example, you have already used your full £1,000 allowance and the next exchange is charged at the overage rate.
- Standard: £1,000/month fair usage limit, then a 1% fee on anything above it.
- Plus: £3,000/month limit, then 0.5%.
- Premium, Metal and Ultra: no fair usage limit and no overage fee.
Why weekend spending costs more
Revolut adds a separate markup to exchanges made outside its normal weekday trading hours. In practice, that means most Saturday and Sunday exchanges. Standard plan holders pay a 1% weekend markup, Plus plan holders pay 0.5%, and Premium, Metal and Ultra customers pay none at all. Frequent weekend travellers can find this alone a strong reason to upgrade from Standard.
Worth knowing: the weekend markup and the fair usage overage fee can both apply to the same exchange. If you have already used up your monthly allowance and you exchange currency on a Saturday, Revolut’s own fee terms confirm the overage fee is charged in addition to the weekend markup, not instead of it.
International transfer and card fees
International transfers
Standard plan holders pay Revolut’s standard transfer fee, calculated in the app before you confirm any payment since it depends on the amount, currency and destination. Paid plans apply a discount on top of that same baseline rate: 20% off for Plus, 40% off for Premium, and no transfer fee at all on Metal or Ultra. Transfers between Revolut users, in your own currency to a UK account, and payments within the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) in euros remain free on every plan, including Standard.
Card fees
Your first Standard-plan card is free, but a delivery fee applies: £4.99 for local standard delivery, £5.99 for international standard delivery, or £16.99 for express tracked delivery. If you hold a paid plan, your first card is free of charge once every 12 months, including one replacement, and delivery is thrown in too: Plus gets free standard delivery (you only pay for express), while Premium, Metal and Ultra get complimentary express tracked delivery.
Ordering extra cards costs more the higher your tier, which is a detail easy to miss: additional cards are £4.99 on Standard and Plus, £39.99 on Premium and Metal, and £49.99 on Ultra. Virtual cards, which you can create instantly in the app, are always free with no delivery fee at all, so sticking to a virtual card is the simplest way to avoid card costs entirely.
Is your money protected? UK banking licence and FSCS cover
Revolut Bank UK Ltd has held a full UK banking licence since March 2026, authorised and regulated by the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority. That means your current account balance is protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) in the same way as money held with any other UK bank.
The FSCS compensation limit is currently £120,000 per person, per authorised bank, covering your current account, Kids & Teens accounts, Pockets and joint accounts held with Revolut Bank UK Ltd. If you also hold a Revolut savings account, that sits with a separate partner bank via Revolut Ltd and carries its own £120,000 FSCS limit, so it is possible to have both types of protection depending on how you use the app.
One important exclusion: stocks, cryptocurrencies and commodities held through Revolut are not FSCS-protected, since they fall outside standard deposit protection rules.
Which Revolut plan is actually worth paying for?
For most light users, Standard is genuinely enough: no monthly fee, £200 a month in free cash withdrawals, and £1,000 a month in fee-free currency exchange comfortably covers occasional travel or the odd overseas purchase.
Upgrading starts to pay for itself once your spending habits regularly bump against those limits. Say you exchange more than £1,000 a month in foreign currency, or weekend spending is routine for you. Plus, at £3.99/month, already halves the weekend markup and triples your exchange allowance. That upgrade can pay for itself within a single foreign trip. Heavier users get more from Premium: it removes the fair usage cap and the weekend markup completely, and that matters more the more you rely on Revolut as your everyday card abroad.
Metal and Ultra add higher ATM allowances and free international transfers, but their subscription cost is harder to justify on fee savings alone. Those tiers make more financial sense once you also value the lifestyle perks bundled in, such as lounge access or travel insurance, rather than the fee reductions by themselves.
